Ildar Gafurovich Yuzeev was a Tatar poet and playwright, People's Poet of Tatarstan. He was born in 1933. After finishing school he enrolled in the Kazan Pedagogical Institute in the department of Tatar language and literature. His subsequent life, creative work and public activities were all connected with Kazan.

Yuzeev began his career in journalism. He worked at the children's magazine 'Yalkyn', the magazine 'Chayan' and at the Union of Writers of Tatarstan. In 1973 he graduated from the Higher Literary Courses in Moscow and then headed the poetry department of the magazine 'Kazan Utlary'. Later he served as deputy chairman of the Union of Writers of Tatarstan.

Yuzeev wrote about 30 poems and more than 40 poetry collections. More than 30 songs have been composed to his poems by composers from Bashkortostan and Tatarstan. These songs became popular and entered the repertoire of many well-known singers. Ildar Gafurovich Yuzeev died in 2004 in Kazan.
