Gapur Saidovich Akhriev

Gapur Saidovich Akhriev was a revolutionary, one of the leaders of the struggle for Soviet power in the North Caucasus during the Civil War. A member of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) since 1919. He was born into a peasant family. He received his initial education at the Vladikavkaz Real School. He then studied at the Moscow Commercial Institute. He took part in the activities of student revolutionary circles. 

 

After graduating from the institute, in 1916 he returned to Vladikavkaz, where he worked as an instructor for the Terek Union of Small Credit Institutions. During this period he became close to S. M. Kirov. After the February Revolution of 1917 he became a member of the Terek Civil Executive Committee and was elected a member of the Vladikavkaz Council of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies.

 

In March 1918 he was appointed People's Commissar for Nationalities of the newly formed Terek Soviet Republic. In 1918–1920 he took an active part in the Civil War. Gapur Saidovich Akhriev died on May 3, 1920, in Baku.
