Grigory Stepanovich Pirogov
About museum
The Pirogov brothers were outstanding Russian singers whose names have become a permanent part of the golden treasury of Russian opera. The uniqueness of the Pirogov family lies in the fact that all the brothers had powerful, inimitable voices, which is an unprecedented phenomenon in the history of world singing. All the grandchildren of Ivan Pirogov, a barge hauler and coachman, inherited exceptionally strong basses from their grandfather; Ivan himself earned the nickname 'The Bell' because of his voice. The well-known singer M. P. Maksakova wrote: "When thinking of the Pirogovs, one wants to say once more: how generous is the Russian land that gave birth to this wonder of nature..."
