Anvar Abdulgamidovich Adzhiev was a Kumyk poet, People's Poet of the Dagestan ASSR (1964). He was born in the village of Kostek into a peasant family. In 1934 his first collection of poems, “Renewal,” was published.

In his works Adzhiev addressed themes of peace and productive labour. Among his well-known works are the collections “Happy Mountains,” “Songs of Happiness,” and “Let's Sing and Laugh.”

Adzhiev graduated from the Higher Party School under the CPSU Central Committee. He worked in various publications and institutions: in newspaper editorial offices, in the apparatus of the Dagestan Regional Committee of the CPSU, in the Union of Writers of Dagestan, and in the Dagestan Television and Radio Committee. He served as editor-in-chief of the almanac “Friendship” and was a member of the Union of Soviet Writers. He was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner of Labour, the Order of the Badge of Honour, and commemorative medals. Anvar Abdulgamidovich Adzhiev passed away on 21 February 1991. Adzhiev's final work was the novella “The Talkative Duck,” published posthumously in 1992.
