Aleksey Petrovich Glova

About museum

Glova Aleksey Petrovich was a participant in the defense of Leningrad and an honorary resident of the village of Novomikhailovskoye. He was born in the village of Glebovka in the Kushchyovsky District of Krasnodar Krai. After completing incomplete secondary school, he graduated from the Rostov Road-Mechanical Technical School. In 1940 he was drafted into the army and sent to the Riga Military School. He took part in battles on the Volkhov Front, in the defense of Leningrad, in the breaking of the blockade and in the liberation of the Baltic states. He was wounded twice and was awarded the Order of the Red Star, two Orders of the Patriotic War, 1st class, the medals 'For Battle Merit', 'For the Defense of Leningrad', 'For the Victory over Germany', and jubilee medals. He finished the war with the rank of major.

In 1947 Glova was appointed chairman of the kolkhoz named after Stalin. He worked on restoring the farm and labored alongside the collective farmers. In 1951 he was transferred to the position of deputy chairman of the kolkhoz named after Kalinin in the village of Novomikhailovskoye, where he lived and worked until the end of his life. At Aleksey Petrovich's initiative a medical post with a maternity ward, a residence for the school director, and a community club were built; Victory Park was laid out and the village was landscaped. With his involvement a shop was built and a monument was erected to the participants of the Civil War.

In 1980 Aleksey Petrovich retired but continued to take part in the life of Novomikhailovskoye — he helped with the village's gasification, made a significant contribution to commemorating fellow villagers who died in the Great Patriotic War, and to the creation of a museum that was later named after him. Under his leadership memorial complexes were created in Novomikhailovskoye and in the settlement of Kommunar. In 2000 he was granted the title 'Honorary Resident of the village of Novomikhailovskoye'. Aleksey Petrovich Glova died on July 14, 2003, and in 2004 a memorial plaque in his honor was installed on the museum building.
