Alexander Nikolayevich Bashlachev – a Soviet poet, bard, rock musician, singer, artist and journalist. He was born on May 27, 1960, in Cherepovets. After finishing school in 1977, Bashlachev attempted to enter the journalism faculty of Leningrad University but was not admitted due to a lack of publications. He worked as an artist at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant, and from 1978 to 1983 studied at the Faculty of Journalism at Ural State University in Sverdlovsk. After graduating, he returned to Cherepovets and for a time worked at the local newspaper Kommunist.
In 1984 Bashlachev met Artemy Troitsky and, at his invitation, played several 'apartment concerts' in Moscow and Leningrad. In the autumn of 1984 Bashlachev moved from Cherepovets to Leningrad. In March 1985 his first public performance took place, and the recording of his first musical album was also made. On January 29, 1988, the last recorded concert of Bashlachev took place at Marina Timasheva's apartment. On February 17, 1988, Alexander Bashlachev died after falling from the window of his apartment in Leningrad.
