Akhiyar Khasanovich Khakimov – a Bashkir writer, translator, critic, and literary scholar. He was born on August 23, 1929, in the village of Novoyanbekovo, now located in the Davlekanovsky District of Bashkortostan. The boy lost his father early and was raised by his grandmother. At the age of fourteen Akhiyar Khakimov voluntarily went to the front of the Great Patriotic War. He fought as part of the 103rd Guards Rifle Division of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. For his courage and heroism he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, the Order of the Red Star, and the medals "For Courage", "For the Capture of Vienna", "For the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945."

After the war Khakimov received a pedagogical education at the Davlekanovo Pedagogical School and for a time worked as a teacher in Uzbekistan. He then graduated from the Faculty of Philology at Moscow State University and defended his candidate dissertation at the Institute of World Literature. Khakimov's career in literature and journalism was full and successful. He worked for the magazine "Agidel" and "Literaturnaya Gazeta," holding managerial positions.

Akhiyar Khakimov received numerous awards and honors – the RSFSR State Prize named after A.M. Gorky, the Republican Prize named after Salavat Yulaev, and the title of People's Writer of Bashkortostan. Akhiyar Khasanovich died on December 27, 2003, and was buried in the Muslim Cemetery in Ufa.
