Anna Semyonovna Golubkina

Anna Semyonovna Golubkina was a sculptor who worked in various forms and genres of sculpture and was a portraitist. She was born in Zaraysk, Ryazan Governorate. At the age of 25 Golubkina moved to Moscow to study porcelain production. She studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under S. I. Ivanov and at the Higher Art School of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg under V. A. Beklemishev. In 1895–1896 she refined her craft in Paris, working in the studio of F. Colarossi.

Among Golubkina's significant works is the bas-relief above the entrance to the Moscow Art Theatre, executed on commission from S. T. Morozov. She also took part in the competition to create a monument to Ivan Fyodorov and studied marble-working techniques in Paris. The sculptor's first solo exhibition took place in 1914 at the Moscow Museum of Fine Arts. Golubkina also taught at the Second Free State Workshops and at Vkhutemas. Among Anna Semyonovna's last works are a portrait of Leo Tolstoy and the statue "Berezka", created in 1927. Anna Semyonovna Golubkina died on 7 September 1927 in Zaraysk, having returned to her family shortly before her death.
