The exhibition “Fellow Countrymen — Dovator's People” will be organized at the Izobilnensky District History Museum. Guards Major General Lev Mikhailovich Dovator fought for only five months, but in that short time became truly a people's hero. His name was immortalized in the name of the longest street in the town of Izobilny. In August 1941 Dovator was awarded the rank of major general and he took command of a separate cavalry group. For combat merits the corps was renamed in November as the 2nd Guards and, together with Panfilov's rifle division and Katukov's tank brigade, defended the approaches to Moscow in the Volokolamsk direction. On December 19 the forward units of the corps reached the area of the village of Palashkino in the Ruza district. Always attaching great importance to reconnaissance, Dovator here also personally decided to inspect the enemy positions before the attack and was mortally wounded by a burst of machine-gun fire. Two days later, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Major General Dovator was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Visitors to the exhibition will learn all of this.
