Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov (1881–1944) was one of the leading masters of 20th‑century Russian painting, the creator of a unique system of art education, and a public figure. The creative phenomenon of Ilya Mashkov is multifaceted and vast. His life intertwined patriarchal traditions and innovation, the metropolitan and the provincial, a “romance with power” and concentrated hermit‑like seclusion in the studio, decisive breakthroughs and losses. The project aims to make Mashkov’s artistic principles and ideas more visible and to facilitate immersion in the artist’s creative world. The exhibition brings together original works by I. I. Mashkov from the 1900s–1940s, photographs, archival documents, studio items, augmented reality effects, multimedia, and video installations. The collection of I. I. Mashkov’s works in the Volgograd museum is the second largest in the world by number of works after the State Russian Museum.
