Fedoskino lacquer miniature. Not far from Mytishchi, in 1795 a craft producing lacquer items from papier-mâché was established. From generation to generation the masters passed on the secrets of making and painting items — jewelry boxes, matchboxes, boxes for stamps and cards, eyeglass cases and snuffboxes. By the mid-19th century the factory's popularity in Russia was so great that the pressed-cardboard products from the Moscow region came to be called “Lukutin's” after the owner A. P. Lukutin. Over more than two centuries the artistic achievements of the craft have been recognized with numerous Russian and international awards. The best works of the celebrated masters from Mytishchi are held in museum collections around the world. Fedoskino products are among the most prestigious Russian souvenirs. Zhostovo. The unfading bouquet. The Zhostovo tray craft was founded in 1825. Metal trays, hand-forged, were painted with oil paints. The tray motifs reproduced Fedoskino miniatures and copies of well-known paintings; gradually an original floral painting style emerged. In the 20th century the picturesque decorative bouquet became the leading direction in Zhostovo art, one of the symbols of Russian folk decorative art. Over the long history of the craft famous dynasties of masters developed, and a unique school of metal painting was created. From utilitarian objects the trays became works of folk decorative art.
