About exhibition

An individual visit to the picture gallery of the Volsk Local History Museum involves an independent viewing of its exhibition without guided-tour services. During the visit, visitors will become acquainted with: – the gallery building, an architectural monument of the second half of the 19th century, the former city estate of first-guild merchant Menkov; – the gallery's art collection, a unique collection of provincial portraiture of the 18th – first half of the 19th centuries, and an impressive collection of paintings, graphics and applied art pieces acquired from the noble estates of the Counts Orlov-Denisov and Nesselrode; – original canvases by world-famous painters Aivazovsky, Shishkin, Surikov, Vereshchagin, Burliuk, Baranov-Rossine and others; – contemporary art represented by works of outstanding painters Yakovlev, Oreshnikov, Chernyshev, the brothers S. and A.
