Exhibitions 'Warm North' and 'Images of the North'
About exhibition
Exhibitions operate in the same exhibition space. The 'Images of the North' exhibition, from the collections of the Russian Ethnographic Museum (REM), is dedicated to the memory of the eminent scientist, ethnographer, archaeologist and hydrologist S. I. Rudenko (1885–1969). The exhibition provides the opportunity to view part of S. I. Rudenko's unique collections held by the REM. It will feature about 30 exhibits and 45 photographs that give a vivid picture of the hunting, everyday and ritual practices of the Khanty and Mansi in the early 20th century. On the 'Warm North' exhibition are displayed fur coats (sakhi) of the Kazym, Nazym and Tegin Khanty, winter clothing of the Pim, Tromagan, Yugan and Vakh Khanty, as well as Mansi fur coats, forest Nenets coats and malitsas of the Komi people. The display strictly corresponds to the many ethnolocal groups of the region. Of particular interest is the interactive zone where visitors can personally feel the difference between different types of fur — reindeer, squirrel and arctic fox — comparing their qualities and structure.
