The exhibition of the Safonovo Historical and Local Lore Museum includes archaeological items, examples of applied art and ethnography, photographs and documents, and weapons. Each exhibit is a whole story, bearing witness not only to well-known events but sometimes revealing previously unknown—and therefore valuable—turns in the history of the native town, as well as recounting the lives and activities of famous residents of Safonovo. Museum visitors are shown historical facts and events of the native region, and the lives and achievements of our celebrated fellow townspeople. A particular pride of the Safonovo museum's collection is the painting "Apples", painted by a native son, Marshal of the USSR Mikhail Nikolayevich Tukhachevsky. Visitors can also see a miner's tool—a jackhammer—with which, in 1952, the settlement's status was elevated: because that year the first tons of brown coal were brought up from the depths of Safonovo land, the settlement became a town.
