Exhibitions of the Gdov Museum of Regional History
About exhibition
The Gdov Museum of Regional History is housed in a two‑storey merchant mansion. On the ground floor you will learn about the history of the house and the fate of its owner, merchant Ivan Antonovich Boyarinov. The exhibition also presents Gdov as a county merchant town. The topic of the nobility is concisely illustrated by surviving items from the estates of Prince Saltykov and Count Pyotr Petrovich Konovnitsyn, a general and hero of the Patriotic War of 1812. On Gdov’s coat of arms are sheaves of flax. In the first‑floor hall there is an exhibition “Everything About Flax from A to Z,” which clearly presents the entire cycle of growing and processing flax — from sowing the seed to obtaining the yarn and cloth. Along its entire western edge, Gdovsky District lies on the shore of Lake Peipus. One of the second‑floor halls is devoted to this beautiful body of water and life on its shores; here you can pose for a photo in a boat or take a selfie with the lake as a background. Another second‑floor hall hosts many varied exhibitions. Works are presented not only by creative people from the Gdov district but also by artists from other towns, and thematic exhibitions from the museum’s collections are organized as well.
