Exhibition "Gold of the Huns"
About exhibition
The exhibition introduces visitors to a unique collection from a burial near the village of Volnikovka in the Fatezhsky District of Kursk Oblast that was disturbed by treasure hunters — the northernmost Hunnic-period burial currently known in Russia. The assemblage comprises more than 300 objects of gold, silver, and copper alloy dated to the first half of the 5th century AD. Among them are three harness sets with metal mounts and buckles decorated with glass mosaics and garnets. In addition to a belt set and scabbard fittings made in the cloisonné style characteristic of the Germanic peoples of the Migration Period, horse harness ornaments play an important role. They are made in a polychrome style traditional for steppe peoples and attest to a Hunnic presence in the Kursk area.
