Exhibition 'The Golden Horde and the Southern Urals'
About exhibition
The exhibition reflects the world of material culture of the people who lived in the Southern Urals during the era of the Golden Horde, through the prism of finds uncovered during excavations of a settlement complex dated to the middle and second half of the 14th century. The study of the material culture of the medieval population of the Southern Urals, which began as early as the 19th century, was for a long time carried out mainly on materials from excavations of burial monuments — the Yuldybaevsky, Bashkir-Berkutovsky, Rossypinsky and other kurgans — which do not allow the full picture of people's lives in the past to be shown. The materials from the excavations of the Podymalovo-1 settlement complex presented in the exhibition not only broaden understanding of everyday life and culture in the past; they also show that during the existence of the Golden Horde the territory of the Southern Urals was integrated into trade and monetary relations with various urban centers, crafts developed, and the region was part of the overall cultural space of the Golden Horde state.
