Exhibition 'The Golden Treasury'
About exhibition
Visitors can view exhibits displayed in three sections of the exposition. The 'Treasures of Crimean Gothia' hall presents archaeological objects made of precious metals — jewelry, ritual accessories, and clothing details dating from the 2nd–15th centuries. Most items were found in the last quarter of the 20th century during archaeological excavations on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula. Some objects, such as Gothic eagle-headed buckles and examples of Roman glass, are unique. The exhibition section 'Coin Hoards of Crimea' features the famous hoard of silver and gold coins discovered during the investigation of a siege well at Chufut-Kale (Bakhchysarai district); hoards of Roman coins from the sandbar of Lake Saky are also displayed. The 'White Hall' displays more than 200 items from ancient, classical, and medieval monuments and burials that were seized and confiscated during FSB of Russia operations to suppress the illegal trafficking of cultural valuables. In total, the exhibition halls present over 2,000 exhibits covering a chronological span from the Bronze Age (3rd millennium BC) to the late medieval period (15th century), reflecting the history of the Eastern Mediterranean region, the northern Black Sea area, Asia Minor, Iran, and Egypt during the period of the Roman Empire and the Migration Period.
