The true gem of the collection of the Nizhny Tagil Museum of Fine Arts is the painting "The Holy Family" ("Madonna del Popolo", "Tagil Madonna"), created in 1509 and attributed to Raffaello Sanzio, as evidenced by an inscription in Italian by the artist along the neckline of the Virgin Mary's dress. The painting was found in Nizhny Tagil in 1924 in one of the old manor houses and for more than 30 years has served as a kind of artistic symbol of Nizhny Tagil. Today this work, together with the "Madonnas" by Italian masters of the 15th–17th centuries, is exhibited in a specially equipped gallery of the museum.
