The permanent exhibition will introduce visitors to the history of the Tretyakov Gallery’s creation, demonstrating the path from the founders’ vision and the small building in Tolmachi to the renowned national art museum that now unites small museums in Moscow and three branches. The exhibition presents archival documents, photographs, films, and installations. The history of the Tretyakov Gallery is closely connected with the country’s historical, socio-political, and artistic processes — curators have taken this context into account by dividing the project’s space into eight chronological periods: the founders’ conception and the emergence of a private gallery, the reorganization of the displays on scholarly principles, the evacuation of the museum collection during the Great Patriotic War, and so on up to the present stage.
