About exhibition

The interior of a Russian izba—the arrangement and names of its corners—were determined by folk culture and traditions, family and communal institutions and moral norms, as well as the climatic characteristics of the area. The exhibition hall immerses visitors in the past, introducing them to the everyday life of an ordinary 19th-century peasant. Household items, tools, tableware, hand-woven runners, embroidered ritual towels (rushnyky), ponev and sarafan ensembles, traditional men's and children's costumes, woven bast shoes (lapti) — these small but precise details fully convey the atmosphere of family life among Graivoron residents of past centuries.
