Exhibition 'At the School Desk'
About exhibition
The exhibition is dedicated to the development of education in Novosibirsk: from the establishment of the first schools in the then-prospective Novo-Nikolaevsk to the founding in Akademgorodok of a physics and mathematics school that today ranks among the country's top five. The modern education system differs from what it was thirty, forty, or a hundred years ago. The rooms recount the history of the Novo-Nikolaevsk women's gymnasium and the Romanov House's real school for boys, convey the conditions under which children had to study during the Great Patriotic War, and trace the transition to universal education. Special attention is paid to familiar traditions—the first bell and the ceremonial school assembly—which, however, did not always exist. School uniforms from different eras are also displayed. More than 200 exhibits from the collections of the Novosibirsk State Museum of Local History are presented: formal gymnasium uniforms and Pioneer neckties, fountain pens and inkwells, as well as modern diaries and notebooks, class photographs and personal belongings of distinguished teachers Anna Petrovna Agafonova and Klavdiya Sergeevna Polyanskaya.
