Exhibition 'Meeting with the Past'
About exhibition
The exhibition is dedicated to the childhood and youth of K. A. Fedin, his time in Saratov, and the influence of his native town on the writer's creative biography. The old Saratov of the late 19th – early 20th century is presented across four halls. The first hall 'Family Tree' introduces visitors to the family of the future writer. It features handwritten documents, family photographs, and commemorative relics from the museum's collection. The second hall tells the story of the period when the future writer studied at the Sretensky School, whose building now houses the museum. The atmosphere of this hall gives an impression of the old pre-revolutionary school and of how children studied at that time. On display are a school desk and blackboard, teaching aids, and rare exhibits. The third hall, 'The Mashkovs' Parlor', acquaints visitors with everyday life of that time. Antique furniture, paintings, and tableware from the late 19th – early 20th century recreate the surprisingly cozy setting of the parlor of the school's headmaster, the writer's grandfather's cousin, S. I. Mashkov, at whose home young Kostya used to visit. The fourth hall, 'The Stationery Shop', tells about K. A. Fedin's years of study at the Saratov Commercial School. Rarities, documents, and photographs allow visitors to become acquainted with the vivid pages of the writer's biography, who forever immortalized Saratov on the pages of his works.
