Exhibition 'Time of Victories'

About exhibition

The exhibition 'Time of Victories' presents the prizes, awards and commemorative badges with which Soviet and Russian filmmakers and their films have been honored over the years — thus developing one of the important themes of the museum's main exhibition 'Labyrinth of History'. Objects from the Museum of Cinema's prize collection are regularly exhibited. For example, the statuette of the Academy Award (Oscar) received by Soviet documentary filmmakers in 1943 for the film 'Defeat of German Troops near Moscow' is displayed in that section of the 'Labyrinth of History' exposition dedicated to cinema of the Great Patriotic War. The prizes of Russia's film academies, 'Nika' and 'Golden Eagle', as well as numerous awards from domestic and international festivals, can be admired in one of the sections of the 'Vertical' exhibition dedicated to Stanislav Govorukhin. At the 'Time of Victories' exhibition we mainly present those prizes and commemorative badges from the Museum of Cinema's collection that have not been shown before. For example, prizes from one of the oldest and most prestigious international film events — the Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Films — which over the years have honored staff of the Central Studio of Documentary Films (CSDF). In the new section of the 'Labyrinth of History' exhibition you can also see prizes from other film festivals that have preserved and strengthened their authority in the 21st century — the Venice Mostra and the film festivals in Karlovy Vary, Oberhausen and Locarno. The awards of the All-Union Film Festival, which moved between the capitals of the Soviet republics and were each made in accordance with the national traditions of decorative and applied arts, form an interesting block of the 'Time of Victories' exhibition. It is important to note that in recent years the Museum of Cinema's prize collection has been supplemented with awards of our contemporaries — and these have for the first time taken their places in the museum showcases. 'Time of Victories' opens at a time when the pandemic has limited our ability to travel and to gather together. This is a serious challenge for those involved in the film festival movement, and they are looking for new formats for screening films, holding press conferences, ceremonies and other traditional festival events. In the meantime we invite you to recall the period of formation and development of the film festival movement. The memory of that time is preserved by the prizes and awards — material witnesses to the victories of domestic filmmakers. The exhibition can be visited with a museum admission ticket.
