Exhibition "Forward to Zlotnikov!"
About exhibition
The exhibition offers a look at the legacy of one of the country’s leading abstract artists, Yuri Savelyevich Zlotnikov, through a range of themes and issues from the modernist history of 20th-century art. The exhibition aims to demonstrate the continuity of ideas developed by various creators — painters, musicians and even architects — over the past century, using examples from painting, sculpture and media art. Visitors will be able to trace the connections between experimental inquiries at the intersection of art and science. The exhibition will occupy the entire main exhibition space of GROUND Solyanka. Two principles of analyzing an artwork will be applied. On the first floor, works by Yuri Savelyevich Zlotnikov will be presented alongside works by contemporary artists, assembled from the perspective of analyzing Zlotnikov’s abstract works as a key to understanding art in general — oriented toward the reduced perceptual impulses elicited by the works. On the second floor, responding to the ambiguous injunction posed by the title, the dramaturgy of the exhibition is constructed in reverse — through the practices and poetics of other artists Zlotnikov’s own legacy is deconstructed and reassembled, revealing the algorithmic nature of his art.
