Immersive exhibition “At the Threshold of Great Mysteries”

About exhibition

The exhibition introduces the story of Alexei Peshkov's childhood — he went on to become the world-famous writer Maxim Gorky. Nizhny Novgorod, where he was born and raised, comes alive in the autobiographical novellas "Childhood" and "In the World." Visitors of all ages will journey together through the streets of the old city, discover well-known and forgotten house addresses preserved in Gorky's memory, and meet the people who became mentors on the young writer's life path. Unique antique objects from the collection of the A. M. Gorky State Museum, along with views of Nizhny Novgorod captured in works by prominent 19th–20th century photographers and artists, will help you feel the atmosphere of the past, experience the life of the city, and immerse yourself in Peshkov's childhood world. An interactive map will indicate the addresses, and a multimedia game will tell the important events in Alyosha's life, with whom you will step over the threshold behind which the great mysteries of his native city are hidden.
