Exhibition «War on the Yukhnov Land. Ugra Front»
About exhibition
The exhibition tells of the heroic events of the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the Yukhnov region: the feats of the paratroopers of I. G. Starchak’s detachment, the Podolsk cadets, and the Soviet soldiers and commanders of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army near Yukhnov. Visitors will learn about the battles on the fortified lines along the Ressa–Ugra–Vorya rivers, which came to be known as the “Ugra Front.” The exhibition features authentic personal effects of I. G. Starchak, the tail section of an Er-2 heavy bomber raised from the Ugra River in 2016, documents, photographic materials, and items found during search operations. The capture of Yukhnov by Soviet forces is depicted in the diorama “Liberation of Yukhnov. 5 March 1942,” created on the basis of 1942 film and photographic chronicle. This event was regarded as a major success for the troops of the Western Front in the counteroffensive near Moscow.
