Exhibition 'Military Murmansk'
About exhibition
In May 2018 a new exhibition, 'Military Murmansk', was opened, dedicated to the defense of the Kola Arctic during the Great Patriotic War (World War II). In several rooms the atmosphere of front-line Murmansk has been recreated — a city that suffered Nazi bombing on a scale comparable to the legendary Stalingrad. Visitors to the museum can see an equipped bomb shelter with a cinema hall and a typical room from a pre-war communal apartment, and view documents and photographs from the period of the city's defense. The exhibits include weapons of the era: deactivated rifles, machine guns, mortars and even an anti-aircraft gun. Of particular interest are the works of the famous war photojournalist Yevgeny Khaldei; one of his photographs is presented as a panorama.
