About exhibition

For the first time in Nizhny Novgorod, a major exhibition of religious painting and graphic art by the outstanding Russian artist Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1848–1926) will be held. The exhibition features more than one hundred unique works by the artist that reflect the ideas and meanings of the Christian faith and the depth, beauty, and spirituality of Orthodox art. The core of the exhibition is formed by items from major state museums (from the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Historical Museum, and the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum): painted canvases, cartoons (preparatory designs), graphic sheets, and sketches created by Vasnetsov in the 1880s–1910s for the decoration of Orthodox churches in Russia.
