After all, how much love, warmth and beauty was invested by the craftswomen into lace doilies, embroidered clothing elements, pillowcases, bed valances — into items that seem simple and artless, yet warm the soul precisely by their simplicity. These objects preserve not merely the memory of long-gone years, but an entire era. A vivid complement to the antique masterpieces are the austere yet colorful costumes of Russian Old Believer settlers from the collection of Novgorod master Nikita Nikitin.
