Exhibition 'The Great Victory. How the Soldier Returned Home'

The exhibition was created by museum staff and search volunteers—members of the public organization 'Search Movement of Russia'. Every year they travel to places where, to this day, our soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War lie unburied, locate them and bring them home. Thus the exhibition, in the silent language of museum exhibits, photographs, archival documents, sounds and voices, tells the story of how a soldier returned home from the front. 'Soldier' is a collective image. It captures the fates of millions of Russians and thousands of Cherdyn residents. From the very first day of the war dozens of applications from the region's residents requesting to be sent to the front were submitted to the Cherdyn district military enlistment office. A special place in the exhibition is given to the support the home front provided to the frontlines. Both adults and children brought Victory closer with their labor feats. A vivid example is Young Pioneer Vasily Kovyliaev. While his father fought at the front, the schoolboy exterminated moles that were destroying the grain harvest. Here you can see a collection of trophies brought from the front, as well as various awards and personal belongings of participants of the Great Patriotic War, including fellow townspeople awarded the title 'Hero of the Soviet Union'.
