Exhibition "Vasily Surikov, Pyotr and Mikhail Konchalovsky"
About exhibition
An exhibition project prepared by the State Russian Museum specifically for the people of Yaroslavl. The works of these artists are being shown at the Yaroslavl Art Museum for the first time, and it is the first occasion that works by Vasily Surikov, Pyotr and Mikhail Konchalovsky are exhibited together in a single exhibition space. The exhibition brings together paintings created over more than a century by members of the same artistic dynasty. The founder of the dynasty is Vasily Ivanovich Surikov, celebrated as a master of the historical genre. Most of the artist's canvases have become canonical in Russian art. One such painting, "The Taking of the Snow Town", is presented in the exhibition. Early works by Vasily Surikov are also on display. The exhibition features works by his son-in-law, the artist Pyotr Konchalovsky. In the 1910s Konchalovsky was among the most avant-garde Russian painters. The artist shocked the public with the boldness of his works. Vasily Surikov not only did not condemn this, but supported Konchalovsky, defending him from critics' attacks. Mikhail Konchalovsky continued the family's artistic traditions. The exhibition includes the work "The Nude Model", painted in the Konchalovsky family studio on Bolshaya Sadovaya. Mikhail Konchalovsky became known for his still lifes and landscapes.
