Exhibition 'Valentin Serov'
About exhibition
Valentin Alexandrovich Serov occupied an important place in Russian culture at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries: he managed to combine several artistic currents and stages of artistic development in his work. The exhibition includes about 50 paintings and graphic works by V. A. Serov, which allow visitors to appreciate the breadth of the artist's genre and stylistic range. A versatile master and tireless seeker, he was drawn to Impressionism, thoughtfully capturing the character of his sitters, painted portraits, illustrated books, and created a new pictorial-plastic language for the new era — Art Nouveau. Ilya Yefimovich Repin wrote of the artist's work: 'Serov's art is like a rare precious stone: the more you gaze into it, the deeper it draws you into its charm.' A virtuoso portraitist, a master of landscape, and an observant animal painter — every facet of his talent is revealed in the exhibition project.
