Exhibition 'A Visit to Merchant Lukutin'
About exhibition
Since the mid-19th century the estate of the Lukutin merchants has been preserved in the village of Danilkovo (now the village of Fedoskino): a two-story house with a mezzanine that housed a workshop for making boxes and snuffboxes. Its last owner, the Moscow merchant Nikolai Alexandrovich Lukutin (1853–1902), was director of the Moscow Philharmonic Society and a member of the Society of Literature and Art. In addition, he was one of the largest collectors of Russian porcelain. By participating in the All-Russian and World Art and Industrial Exhibitions, the Lukutins obtained the status of suppliers to His Imperial Majesty's court and the right to mark their products with the coats of arms of the Russian Empire, together with their family name. This mark became the factory's trademark. The tour acquaints visitors with the history of the Lukutin family and their close circle, among whom were the famous singer F.I. Chaliapin, the researcher, traveler and geographer N.M. Przhevalsky, the legendary General M.D. Skobelev, and others. The exhibition recreates the interiors of the estate owner's study and the production manager's office. The memorial items on display allow visitors to touch history, imagine the country life of a merchant of that time, and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a 19th-century estate.
