Exhibition "What Was Taken in Battle..."
About exhibition
Trophies and 'trench' souvenirs are a distant echo of soldiers' lives with their joys and tragedies. Today's exhibits were once family heirlooms and talismans, passed down from generation to generation. They preserve memories and bear witness to difficult human fates. Visitors will be able to see European weapons and captured military uniforms used during military conflicts of the 19th–21st centuries. Some of the exhibits were already displayed at a military exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod as early as 1915. A special place in the exhibition is occupied by a series of painterly pencil drawings — portraits of soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, created by the Gorky artist A. G. Varlamov in 1944–1945, and a copy of I. F. Khrutsky's painting "Fruits and Flowers", painted by the German artist Henlein while in Soviet captivity. The exhibition is complemented by unique pieces of furniture from the ruined German Monbijou Castle. The exhibition will be part of the overall exposition of the Rukavishnikov Estate and will run until January 2026. #MuseumExhibitions2025
