Exhibition "Mysteries of Lost Expeditions"
About exhibition
The exhibition is dedicated to the history of three Russian Arctic expeditions to the northern seas led by Georgy Sedov, Georgy Brusilov, and Vladimir Rusanov. Visitors will learn about the heroic events of the voyages of 1912–1914. The loss of two expedition schooners and the crews of Vladimir Rusanov and Georgy Brusilov, trapped in Arctic ice and having become symbols of achievement, heroism, and courage for several generations of compatriots, has remained a mystery and continues to stir the imagination. It is not surprising that nearly 100 years later these events still attract new researchers and spur renewed searches for their remains. Alongside exhibits from the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, the exhibition for the first time presents sensational finds belonging to Georgy Brusilov's missing expedition on the schooner St. Anna, discovered on Franz Josef Land in the summer of 2011. Photographs and archival footage serve as authentic testimony to one of the most fascinating and tragic expeditions in Arctic history.
