The exhibition in the Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich brings together more than 800 items from the 17th–20th centuries from the collections of the museum-reserve, the V. A. Tropinin Museum and the Museum of Cosmonautics. The project offers the opportunity, by observing a succession of inventions and discoveries, to explore the history of timekeeping — from sundials to modern technologies. The exhibits reveal how scientists, craftsmen and artists of different eras created not merely mechanisms but true works of art that embodied philosophical and scientific ideas about time. The clocks vary in shape, size and materials and are arranged in chronological order of their creation.
