Exhibition "Journeys of Ancient Heroes: The Art of the Island of Bali"
About exhibition
The exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to get acquainted with the painting and sculpture of the island of Bali (Republic of Indonesia). The first section will present paintings on mythological and religious subjects by masters of traditional painting from the village of Kamasan, whose development was notably influenced by the aesthetic and artistic features of the Indonesian shadow-puppet theater wayang kulit. The second section of the exhibition is devoted to new trends in Balinese art from the 1930s onward, when artists, under the influence of Western culture, began exploring different forms of visual expression, adopting new materials and techniques and shifting from purely religious to secular themes.
