Exhibition "Stalingrad in Artistic Depictions"

About exhibition

Through various forms of visual art the exhibition tells the story of the Battle of Stalingrad and its heroes. The display will include classical painting, graphic memoirs, as well as frontline sketches from the collection of the Museum-Reserve "The Battle of Stalingrad." They can convey aspects of the war that are not written in orders and reports. Filled with sincere feeling and keen observation, the works of military artists are quite comparable to the best literary sketches by frontline writers and correspondents, who recorded the first, most vivid impressions. Sketches made during breaks between battles were published in army newspapers, sent home, and carefully kept in family albums as the most treasured relics. Today they allow a glimpse into the spiritual world of Stalingrad's defenders. Visitors will be able to see works by artists such as Yu. V. Vorogushin, F. P. Grechkin, P. I. Baranov, S. M. Godyna, E. I. Komarov, P. Ya. Kirpichev and others. The drawings attract attention with their documentary truth, poignant authenticity, and determination to convey to future generations the truth about those heroic days when the fate of the Motherland was decided on the battlefields.
