Exhibition 'Treasures of the Museum Collection'
About exhibition
The display cases contain items that were donated to the museum and those discovered during archaeological excavations and surveys of ancient towns and settlements. The collections of the museum-reserve include a rich and varied assortment of tableware made of porcelain and faience, as well as various metals. The exhibition features examples of metal tableware from Poland and England, and silver pieces produced in Russia in the early 20th century. A pride of the museum's holdings is tableware made by Persian masters — the world-famous Persian chasing (ghalamzani). Illustrating the ethnographic direction of the Kaluga United Museum-Reserve's activities is a collection of folk household items: a selection of women's headdresses from different regions of Russia dating from the late 18th to the early 20th century. Visitors have the opportunity to become acquainted with ancient traditional headdresses — kichka, kokoshnik, soroka — and with examples of women's needlework for which the craftswomen of the Kaluga Governorate were famed.
