Exhibition 'Words of Stones. An Experience of Reading and Transmitting the Heritage of Kala-Koreysh'
About exhibition
The exhibition is presented as a 3D model of an ancient settlement which, according to legend, was the former capital of the Kaitag utsmiate — one of the earliest centers for the spread of Islam in Dagestan. The village was founded by descendants of the Arab Quraysh tribe, from which the Prophet Muhammad originated. The exhibition's unusual feature is that it displays not original objects but their replicas, in particular the gates of the Kala-Koreysh mosque, gravestones with Arabic calligraphy, and sarcophagus-shaped tombs. This characteristic, together with modern technical means based on the 3D model, allows visitors to explore the mountain settlement and literally touch its shrines. The exhibition was previously also shown at the State Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and in Tunisia.
