Exhibition 'To Augment the Glory of the Russian Fleet...'
About exhibition
The exhibition tells the story of the formation of the Russian Navy and the feats of Ryazan sailors during various periods of Russian history. The hall presents the history of the Russian fleet, which began on Ryazan soil in the village of Dedinovo on the Oka River as early as 1669 during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich with the construction of the first Russian naval ship, 'Oryol'. The name of Vasily Mikhailovich Golovnin, an explorer and traveler from the village of Gulyinki in the Starozhilovsky district, is prominently featured. The exhibition includes a model of the sloop 'Diana', on which Golovnin made a circumnavigation. Visitors can also see the stern ensign of the ships of the Russian Imperial Fleet and of the Navy of the Russian Federation — the St. Andrew's flag. Of particular interest are the compass and the ship's chronometer. The history of the modern submarine fleet is represented by materials about the nuclear submarine 'Ryazan' and the tragedy of the nuclear submarine 'Kursk'.
