In the museum hall you can learn about the life and traditions of a peasant family, its daily activities, local crafts and folk arts (embroidery, painting, toy-making), and discover the customs of the Kostroma region, considered the homeland of the famous fairy-tale character Snegurochka (the Snow Maiden). You will learn why the Kostroma land is regarded as Snegurochka's birthplace and the legends surrounding the founding of the city of Kostroma. The museum exhibition also presents the biography and works of playwright A. N. Ostrovsky, closely connected with the Kostroma region.
