Exhibition «The Agricultural District — Chora of Chersonesus»
About exhibition
The exhibition is organized into nine thematic blocks that cover the life of the Chersonesus rural district over nearly two thousand years. Beginning with the city's foundation and the establishment of relations with the local barbarian population, the main focus is on the organization of the lands of the Heraclean Peninsula and northwestern Crimea through the use of a regular planning grid. Economic life is examined in detail: agriculture formed the basis of the economy, with viticulture and winemaking occupying a leading position; cereals and orchard crops were also cultivated. Religious and cultural life, customs and everyday life of the inhabitants of rural estates are described in detail. The Chora of Chersonesus is a unique example of the spatial organization of rural territory in antiquity, traces of which have survived to the present day. Drawing the attention of Sevastopol residents and visitors clearly contributes to raising cultural and educational levels and to the further development of tourism and recreation.
