Solo exhibition of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation I. I. Dunkay explores the culture and daily life of the Udege people, the Jurchen (Golden) Empire, and the nature of the Russian Far East. Ivan Dunkay is a member of the Udege people. As a result, a significant part of his work is devoted to themes of shamanic rituals, fishing and hunting, Udege daily life and its history. Many of Dunkay's paintings are landscapes praising the beauty of the Far Eastern taiga, which is closely connected to the life of this people. The exhibition also includes works dedicated to the people's medieval history, their ancestors—the Jurchen Empire—and its fall. The author's repertoire also features images of Far East explorer V. K. Arseniev and his guide in the Ussuri taiga, Dersu Uzala. For his artistic portrayal of the traveler and writer V. K. Arseniev, the Udege people, and the Ussuri taiga, Ivan Ivanovich Dunkay's name was entered into the World Encyclopedia 'Artists of the World'. In 2004 he was awarded the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation badge 'For Achievements in Culture'. His works are held in many museums across the country and are exhibited abroad.
