Exhibition 'From the Heavens'
About exhibition
The exhibition is devoted to the image of the angel in art: their diversity, characteristic attributes and symbolism across different eras, and how they are perceived by the public and viewers. Angels are messengers and servants of God (with variations across religions), patrons and protectors, intermediaries and spiritual guides who take part in human history — bodiless and immortal inhabitants of an unseen heavenly realm inaccessible to ordinary people. Nevertheless, depictions of angels already appear in early Christian art, for example. Icon painters tried to give visible form to a spiritual being without material embodiment. In essence, such an image is a symbol, a sign, an interpretation that over time acquires a number of stable elements shaped by historical context and cultural traditions. The exhibition brings together graphic works, examples of decorative and applied arts, and floristry to illustrate the changing appearance of heavenly beings. The organizers hope that everyone interested in religious symbolism, the history and transformation of familiar images, or seeking inspiration in beauty will find their angel at the exhibition.
