Exhibition "Russian Art of the 18th–19th Centuries"

About exhibition

The "Russian Art of the 18th–19th Centuries" gallery introduces museum visitors to paintings, works of art made of glass, porcelain, carved bone, and decorative furniture. Particular attention in the exhibition is drawn to the gallery of portraits of members of the imperial family, as well as masterpieces of the museum collection — works by V. Borovikovsky, K. Bryullov, V. Tropinin, and A. Venetsianov. Thanks to works from the museum's collection, the viewer can see the evolution of the portrait genre: from the semi-formal depictions of rulers of the early 18th century to the portrayal of the fairy-tale maiden by V. Vasnetsov. The second part is devoted to paintings of the second half of the 19th century. The authors of most works are the masters of the "Society for Traveling Art Exhibitions", or, in other words, the Peredvizhniki. Having left the Academy of Arts, they steered Russian art in a new direction by turning to national themes. Thus, the exhibition features scenes from peasant life painted by V. Vasnetsov, V. Perov, M. Maksimov, and V. Surikov. In the landscapes of I. Shishkin and F. Vasilyev the characteristic features of Russian nature are revealed: its grandeur, poetry, and beauty. The exhibition includes the ARTEFACT mobile application — a multimedia guide that allows visitors to explore works of art in an interactive format. Guided tours are not provided.
