About exhibition

The exhibition introduces the traditional culture of the Russian population of Chuvashia. The materials for it were collected during the museum's ethnographic and folklore expedition across the Alatyrsky, Poretsky and Yadrinsky municipal districts. Costumes from the Mariinsky-Posadsky and Cheboksary districts are also presented here. You will learn that, on the small territory of the Chuvash region, settlers from various Russian governorates have been living since the 16th century and have preserved these differences in their folk culture. The exhibition demonstrates the diversity of the population and tells about the life of Russian peasants in the territory of contemporary Chuvashia through life-cycle rituals, from birth to death.
