Exhibition "The Rurikids"
About exhibition
The history of the Rurikid dynasty's rule tells of the formation of statehood and all aspects of the country's life: the founding of ancient towns, the Christianization of Rus', the consolidation of the Russian lands and the rise of Moscow, the two-hundred-year Mongol yoke and Yermak's campaign, legendary battles and great victories. It is no exaggeration to say that it was the Rurikids who created Rus' — not only as a state but as a distinct civilization: that very Holy Rus' which served as the exemplar guardian of Orthodoxy. The Rurikid family includes the most famous figures of Russian history — Princess Olga, the fearless Sviatoslav, Vladimir the Baptizer, Saints Boris and Gleb, Yaroslav the Wise, Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Ivan III and his powerful grandson Ivan the Terrible. Interactive maps and touchscreen panels, which interpret not only a ruler's biography but also his values, allow visitors to learn about the lives of the Rurikids. Floors and walls project the "mood" of each period in the formation of Rus'.
