Exhibition 'Rasul Gamzatov and the Theatre'

About exhibition

Rasul Gamzatov's work is closely intertwined with the history of Dagestan's national theatres. The work of the outstanding poet continues to inspire theatre practitioners today. Rasul Gamzatov's poem 'Goryanka' enjoyed an enviable creative trajectory. A drama of the same name based on this work was staged on the stages of more than twenty theatres across the country, became firmly part of their repertoires for many years, and has been actively incorporated into contemporary life. The story of the mountain girl Asiyat, who stood up against old adat customs for the right to decide her own fate, became a sought-after theme for Dagestan's theatres as well. The exhibition features posters, programs, congratulatory telegrams, photos of actresses and scenes from performances of 'Goryanka'. The history of the staging of the ballet 'Goryanka' at the Kirov Theatre in Leningrad is also shown in detail; its music was written by Murad Kazhlaev. The ballet's premiere on March 20, 1968 was a great success. Over the years 'Goryanka' was staged in Samarkand, Varna, and San Francisco.
